SELF-GUIDED TOUR: SAINT-LOUIS' LIGHTHOUSE
The Saint-Louis lighthouse stands at the end of the Môle Saint Louis, a 650-metre-long stone pavement built when the town was founded. Built around 1680 and demolished in 1944 by German mines, Saint-Louis lighthouse was rebuilt in 1948. Today, its red light continues to signal the entrance to the channel, and it is now open to the public. Come and climb the steps of this incredible panoramic viewpoint and enjoy a 360° view of the commercial port, the marina and the old town.Key figures: 2,297 stones, 310 m3 of cut stone, 126 steps, 25.78 m high, 6.50 m in diameter at the base and 4.55 m at the top, 3 m in diameter inside.
