Located on the outskirts of Montbazin, in the direction of Villeveyrac, the hills of La Moure form an unspoilt area of striking beauty, at times reminiscent of the great landscapes of Lozère. These Mediterranean reliefs culminate in an exceptional 360° panoramic view over the Thau lagoon, from Sète to Mont Saint-Loup, with the plain of Gigean and the impressive wind farm of the Plateau d'Aumelas below.
The massif is characterized by authentic garrigue dominated by kermes oaks, where the traditional rural heritage remains remarkably well-preserved. The hills are home to numerous capitelles, the dry-stone huts that served as shelters for shepherds, as well as lavognes, ingenious stone basins designed to collect rainwater for watering the herds. These witnesses to the past give the area a timeless atmosphere where the sweetness of the present moment reigns.
This natural territory is best explored via a 12.5-kilometre signposted hiking trail starting from Montbazin. To enhance the experience, a mobile application developed by Écologistes de l'Euzière offers an interactive interpretation trail with maps, points of interest, text, photos and sound effects, providing a fun way to learn more about local biodiversity.
The Collines de la Moure is also a wine-growing area recognized since 2009 under the IGP Collines de la Moure appellation, producing quality vins de pays that flourish at the foot of these limestone reliefs.
