Presentation

The church of Saint-Jacques le Majeur, in the center of the commune of Bouzigues, is built on a small hill overlooking the Thau lagoon.

Built in the 14th and 15th centuries and remodeled in the 17th century, the church still retains Gothic and Baroque elements. Inside, the entire high altar is listed as a Historic Monument, and a 5m-high altarpiece houses a medallion decorated with a bust of Christ and two angels. A painting at the back of the church depicts Saint-Jacques, patron saint of Bouzigues, also known as "le Majeur", a fisherman by profession.

The church has an elongated plan, flanked by a bell tower topped by a wrought-iron campanile. The façade features a window and two oculi on either side of the portal.
