The Molière Theatre, Scène Nationale (Sète)
Located along the Avenue Victor Hugo, the Molière Theatre is a well-known venue for the people of Sète. Here you can enjoy theatre, but not only! With nearly forty shows on offer throughout the year, you will be spoilt for choice: music, dance, opera... There are even shows for children.
For the record, we owe this Italian-style theatre to the architect Antoine Gour who inaugurated it in 1904. Since then, this Historic Monument (2003) has not stopped collecting glorious nicknames: "the most beautiful Italian-style theatre in the whole of the south of France", "the real jewel of Italian-style theatres"... It now belongs to the network of National Scenes.
The little extra: You can discover the Molière theatre during a show or prefer a guided tour offered by the Intercommunal Tourist Office to explore its backstage. More information here.
Le théâtre de Poche (Sète)
A few steps away, 29 Grande Rue Haute, a small, more intimate "old-fashioned" theatre (about fifty seats) invites you from September/October to May/June. Four nights a week, adults can enjoy a one-man show, a jazz concert, flamenco... while children can laugh at a puppet show, a play, a musical tale...
Also, if you want to take theatre courses or workshops, the Théâtre de Poche can be transformed into a school! Whatever your age, take part in a practical theatre workshop.
La Passerelle (Sète)
Among the more intimate venues in Sète is La Passerelle. Located in the Ile de Thau district, this former theatre built in the 1990s is now managed by the MJC La Passerelle and offers a programme that is 70% free.
In addition to the regular sports activities, you can attend shows, plays, screenings, concerts and themed evenings.
Le théâtre de la Mer (Sète)
The Théâtre de la Mer is a rather special theatre. Before becoming the main stage of Sète every summer, it was in the 17th century a fortification designed to protect the population and the port of Sète from land and sea attacks, before being converted into barracks and then into a hospital.
It became the Jean Vilar theatre in homage to the famous actor and director from Sète, known, among other things, for having created the Avignon festival, and it hosts all the major festivals. Its particularity: the unobstructed view that it offers on the Mediterranean Sea and the Saint-Clair mountain, since it is a theatre open on the sea as its name indicates.
Le Piano Tiroir (Balaruc-les-Bains)
In Balaruc-les-Bains, this cultural centre, which focuses on multidisciplinary programming, offers theatre, café-theatre, music, dance, cinema and programming for young audiences from the end of September to June.
Don't miss a visit to the Piano Tiroir gallery which regularly hosts exhibitions.
The Théâtre de Verdure (Balaruc-les-Bains)
From June to September, the Théâtre de Verdure extends the cultural season of Balaruc-les-Bains. Nestled in the Sévigné park, not far from the tourist office, it welcomes you, in the open air, for a film, a concert, a show or even a lottery (organised by the Balaruc-les-Bains festival committee).
The Henri Maurin Theatre (Marseillan)
To the west of the Thau Archipelago, the Henri Maurin theatre promotes culture in Marseillan through plays, songs, world music and comedy shows, for young and old alike.
For the record, this theatre was built between 1911 and 1920 and is considered one of the last Italian-style theatres in the Hérault department.
