Presentation
In the center of the city, the Pavillon Sévigné (built in 1753) was the first thermal establishment. Its beautiful arcades surrounding a thermal water basin and the Sevigne Park were created in 1833.
The year 1732 marked a real turning point for the Balarucoise resort with the end of its open-air thermal cures. Indeed, anxious to offer to the curists more comfortable conditions of care, adapted to their needs and expectations, the station built, in the heart of the enclosure sheltering the thermal baths, a hotel providing to the patients the possibility of benefiting, in all seasons, from a wider range of services: The Pavillon Sévigné.
This building takes its name from the fact that Monsieur de Grignan, son-in-law of the Marquise de Sévigné, came to Balaruc to be treated for gout. Madame de Sévigné evoked in her correspondence, the benefits of the waters of Balaruc-les-Bains. Recognition is thus brought to this talented woman of letters of the 17th century having strongly contributed to the fame of the station, through some happy words: "Three days spent in Balaruc made a miracle".
This one-story building frames a square courtyard with a small central pool called the "foot bath". All year round, hundreds of visitors meet in the 43° thermal water of the foot bath to discuss, sing, play music, etc
